Menka Shivdasani is the author of two collections of poetry, Nirvana at Ten Rupees & Stet. She is also co-translator of Freedom and Fissures, an anthology of Sindhi Partition poetry (Sahitya Akademi, 1998 and editor of If the Roof Leaks, Let it Leak, a volume of writing by Indian women. Menka’s work is widely anthologised, both in India, and elsewhere, and her poem, The Atheists’ Confessions, is represented in Indian Literature in English (2012), a Mumbai University textbook. Menka is the Mumbai coordinator of the global movement 100 Thousand Poets for Change. In 1986, she had played a key role in setting up the Poetry Circle in Mumbai. Her thirty-year career as a journalist and columnist includes a stint with South China Morning Post in Hongkong and nine books, of which she was co-author/ editor, three of which were released by the then prime minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
