Saleel Wagh

Saleel Wagh is a renowned Marathi poet, born in 1967 in Rajkot, Gujarat. With seven poetry collections to his name, including Nivadak Kavita (1996), Sadhyachya Kavita (2005), Aadhichya Kavita (2007), and a Marathi translation of the celebrated Hindi poet Shamsher Bahadur Singh (1911–1993), Saleel Wagh has made a lasting impact on contemporary Marathi literature. His works also include Blog Pahila (critical articles on Marathi poetry), Racecourse aani Itar Kavita (2009), Junya Kavita (2010), UlatSulat (2011), Saheli Tijjan(2012), and Talaleya Kavit (2018).
His collections Nivadak Kavita and Racecourse aani Itar Kavita are particularly influential. Saleel Wagh describes poetry as “cryptology,” viewing the poet as a cryptologist of culture. He was associated with the Radical Humanist Association in the 1990s and has received the
‘Shabdavedh Sanman’ for Marathi poetry (2006) and the prestigious ‘Sahir Ludhiyanvi Sanman’ (2017) from the Balraj Sahani Foundation. 
His latest book, Chukichya Bhashet Janmala Aalo, features both new and selected poems from his previous collections.
